Packaging requirements for industrial components

Metal components are sensitive to moisture. Corrosion on surfaces, threads, or functional areas means rejects or complaints. VCI films (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) release corrosion-inhibiting agents and protect metal surfaces without additional coating — they are commonly used for components made of steel, aluminum, or copper and serve as flexible packaging solutions for different metals alike.


Sharp edges and high unit weight place greater mechanical strain on the packaging material than with other product groups. Tear-resistant films with sufficient wall thickness are essential here. For assortment or set packaging — such as screw sets for assembly — all components must be packaged together and remain clearly identifiable as a set. Article numbers, barcodes, and labels stay visible and scannable through transparent film.
 

Packaging principles for industrial components

Individual parts and set packaging are fully enclosed via full film wrap. Side sealing machines work precisely and with format flexibility here — even with varying dimensions within a single production run. What is VCI film, and when is it used for industrial components?

VCI stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. The film releases corrosion-inhibiting agents in gaseous form, which settle on metal surfaces and prevent oxidation. VCI films are suitable for steel, aluminum, and copper parts and are used wherever longer storage or transport times require reliable corrosion protection.

Can components with sharp edges be packaged on standard packaging machines?
