Form-shoulder machines are fully automatic packaging machines in which the film is drawn over a so-called form shoulder and the product is wrapped in film on all sides. The characteristic feature of this packaging principle is the overlap seal on the underside of the product — this eliminates the side seals of conventional side sealing machines.
The result is a clean, virtually seamless pack that is particularly effective at the point of sale. Since no film waste is generated, no complex residual film rewinding is required either — an advantage that simplifies operation and can noticeably reduce material costs.

Continuous-motion film packaging: Servo FS series
For applications with particularly high throughput, the continuous-motion servo models operate without stop-and-go. The Universa 500 Servo FS reaches up to 120 cycles per minute. The Universa 800 Servo FS version continuously packages products at up to 80 cycles.
Both machines combine the advantages of form-shoulder technology — no film waste, high-quality film overlap on the underside of the product. The film packs are produced reliably and with consistent quality.

What is a form shoulder and how does the packaging principle work?
A form shoulder is a shaped metal element over which a flat film or center-folded film is guided in such a way that it wraps the product in a tube-like manner. The overlap seal is applied on the underside of the product — without side seals and without film waste.
What is the difference between ionization and welding as a sealing method?
In ionization, the overlapping film is bonded together by electrostatic charging — without heat and without a seal seam. Welding creates a thermal bond. Which method is used depends on the customer's requirements.
How does a form-shoulder machine differ from a side sealing machine?
With a side sealing machine, the packaged product ends up with three seals located on the sides of the product. The form-shoulder machine packages products with two seals on the ends of the product and an overlap on the underside of the product.
